Dr. Timothy Nielander
GP3 Institute was created to form a network of advisors with expertise relating to institutional design, governance and operations of public-private collaborations, from community to global initiatives. Tim works on a range of projects involving multinational stakeholders across Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia, Africa and the South Pacific. Over the past 15 years, he has served as an advisor and Board Member for development programs focused on the MDGs/SDGs. Tim is a qualified solicitor in England/Wales and licensed to practice law in Washington. He also holds an LLM in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Houston and a PhD from the Graduate Institute, University in Geneva, Switzerland, researching legal frameworks and challenges for public private cooperation institutions.
Tim previously served as General Counsel and Managing Director of Corporate Services for Gavi the Vaccine Alliance where he was responsible for managing legal affairs, the insurance portfolio and corporate services. Gavi’s partnership members include WHO, UNICEF, the World Bank, foundations, NGOs and government development agencies. He coordinated legal support for Gavi’s initial US$4 billion International Finance Facility for Immunization and for the US $3 billion Advance Market Commitment for Pneumococcal Vaccines. Prior to Gavi, he practiced with the Seattle law firm, Preston Gates & Ellis (KLGates) where he provided counsel to a broad range of clients, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Microsoft Corporation and Amazon.com.
